Poetry from a painted mouthSourced

A curtain changed the appearance of recitation

Façade combines Edith Sitwell’s poems with William Walton’s music. Performances placed the recitation behind a curtain bearing a painted face, sending the words through a hole at its mouth with a megaphone. The visible face and the speaker were deliberately separated.

The painted mouth became the words’ point of exit.
