Shampooing for kingsSourced
This nineteenth-century service was more than hair washing
Indian-born Dean Mahomed opened a vapour-bath and massage business in Brighton in 1814. Its shampooing involved body treatment with Indian oils. He was appointed shampooing surgeon to George IV and William IV, a role quite different from the modern impression of shampoo.
A familiar word once described a different service.
