Small candlelit floats mark a Thai full-moon festival

During Thailand’s Loy Krathong, decorated little floats are launched on rivers, canals or ponds. Traditional versions use banana leaves and carry candles and incense. The festival follows a full moon in the Thai lunar calendar, so its Western-calendar date changes from year to year. Its floating vessels belong on the water.

The evening’s lights can be found below the moon as well as above.
