A nineteenth-century machine sent signatures over wires
Caselli’s pantelegraph was an early facsimile device for sending handwriting and drawings over telegraph lines. An 1860 test sent composer Rossini’s signature between Paris and Amiens. Official operation on the Paris–Lyon line began in 1865.
The transmitted message could preserve the shape of a signature.
