Newspapers became walls and furniture in this house

Massachusetts’ Paper House was built in the 1920s. Newspaper panels filled a wooden frame and were left visible rather than covered with wood. Its builder later made furniture from tightly rolled newspapers. Discarded newsprint became both the room’s boundaries and objects inside it.

The newsprint had a life beyond being read.
