This slender-necked beetle has no eyes or flying wings
Leptodirus hochenwartii lives in caves in Slovenia, Croatia and parts of Italy. It has long legs and antennae, a slender thorax and domed wing covers that give it a rounded appearance. Adapted to underground life, it lacks eyes, flying wings and body pigment.
Its cave-adapted form differs from a familiar outdoor beetle.
