Tabei’s Everest ascent followed an avalanche
An avalanche buried Junko Tabei and others on Everest on 4 May 1975. Sherpa guides dug them out without fatalities. After resting and continuing, Tabei reached the summit with Ang Tsering on 16 May, becoming the first woman to do so.
The ascent included a rescue carried out by others.
