Entertainment in the intervalSourced
He filled the riding-act pauses with other performers
Philip Astley presented trick riding in London. In 1770 he hired acrobats, tightrope walkers, jugglers and a clown to fill pauses between the riding acts. The intervals became part of an integrated entertainment format associated with the modern circus.
Waiting for the next act became another act.
