Paintings in a drugstore led to a solo exhibition

In 1938, collector Louis Caldor spotted paintings in a drugstore window in Hoosick Falls, New York. Their maker, Grandma Moses, had taken up painting seriously late in life. He bought the works and promoted them; her first New York solo exhibition followed in 1940.

A pharmacy window became an unexpected starting point.
