Winter ice for a summer drink

Dorothy Molter made root beer for canoeists visiting her home on Minnesota’s Knife Lake. Without electricity, she chilled it using ice cut from the lake in winter and kept in an icehouse. That stored ice lasted at least into August.

A summer drink began with work on a winter lake.
