A song built from overheard couplesSourced
He had not dated anyone, so he listened to couples for a love song.
Conan Gray said the idea for his 2021 song People Watching came from overhearing couples and wishing to share those feelings himself. He also said he had never dated anyone when he wrote it. Listening became the starting point for a song about longing.
Other people's conversations became his own question.
