A pineapple ad without a pineappleSourced
Commissioned for pineapple juice ads, O'Keeffe first painted a flower and papaya.
In 1939 Georgia O'Keeffe made Hawaii paintings for Dole pineapple juice advertising. Her first submissions showed a flower and a papaya tree. The client wanted a pineapple, so a suitable plant was flown to New York for her. A flower painting and a pineapple painting eventually appeared in the ads.
Even a famous artist heard the client's product request.
