A wheatfield near Wall Street

In 1982, artist Agnes Denes planted wheat on a landfill in lower Manhattan near Wall Street. The field needed imported soil, prepared furrows and months of care before it was harvested. The work was titled Wheatfield — A Confrontation.

This was a crop grown through to harvest, rather than greenery installed as scenery.
