Withdrawal can capture tooSourced
Moving away may be an attacking move
In Madagascar’s fanorona, a piece can capture by approaching an opponent or by withdrawing from an adjacent opponent along their shared line. Uninterrupted opposing pieces on the relevant line are removed. Moving away can therefore be an attack rather than only a retreat.
The distance increases while the opponent loses pieces.
