A propeller on railsSourced

This experimental railcar used an aircraft-like push

Germany’s Schienenzeppelin used a rear propeller for propulsion. In 1931 it reached roughly 230 kilometres per hour. Only one was built, and safety concerns kept the design from ordinary service. Aircraft-style thrust reached a railway, without becoming its standard future.

Speed alone did not settle the practical questions.
