A towering structure is carried to the sea

In Pariaman, West Sumatra, Indonesia, Tabuik is a Muharram remembrance tradition. Tall ceremonial structures made of bamboo, rattan and paper are carried in procession to the shore and cast into the sea. Their spectacle also carries a commemorative meaning.

A striking appearance does not tell the whole meaning of a ceremony.
