A camel spider may be following your shadow
Solifuges are arachnids distinct from true spiders and scorpions. Stories describe them pursuing people, but apparent following can be explained by an animal seeking the shade cast by a person. Many species live in dry climates.
The attractive part of the person may be the moving shade.
