A mouth-to-mouth contestSourced
The apparent kiss is a territorial confrontation
Male sarcastic fringeheads display their large, brightly colored mouths in territorial encounters. Rivals can press their expanded mouths together in a wrestling motion that resembles kissing. The mouth serves as a display and contest tool as well as feeding equipment.
The contact expresses rivalry rather than affection.
