A pencil sharpener returned a certificate with the pencil
American cartoonist David Rees launched a hand-sharpening service in 2010. For fifteen dollars at the time, he returned a sharpened pencil, its bagged shavings and a certificate of authenticity. The humorous elevation of a small everyday task also led to a 2012 book on sharpening pencils.
An ordinary task can acquire an elaborate ceremony.
