A Davenport desk hides more than its top suggests
The English Davenport desk has a sloping hinged top that opens over space for papers and writing tools. A stack of drawers sits at the side, sometimes concealed by a panel. Looking only from the front can miss the storage arrangement.
The compact writing surface has sideways storage.
