Ancient bells found on buried dogsSourced
Archaeologists found hundreds of bells.
Most were around dogs' necks.
At Yinxu in China, about 350 late-Shang clapper-bells known as ling have been recovered. Most were found around the necks of dogs buried in tombs. A suspended clapper inside each bell produced sound when it struck the rim.
A sound-making object
also had a burial role.
