An unopened chute and a snowy slope
In January 1942, Soviet airman Ivan Chisov bailed out of an attacked bomber. He lost consciousness before opening his parachute and landed on the edge of a snowy ravine, sliding down the slope. Accounts put the fall at roughly seven kilometres. He survived with severe injuries.
Rescuers found him alive, still wearing the unopened parachute.
