A penguin’s storySourced
The promoted penguin has successors
Nils Olav at Edinburgh Zoo is a mascot of Norway’s King’s Guard. The name and associated ranks have passed through three king penguins since 1972. The third holder was promoted to major general in 2023.
The long tradition belongs to successive penguins, rather than one exceptionally old bird.
