Some ants steer back towards their tree

Some canopy-dwelling ants control the direction of a fall and glide towards their tree trunk. Gliding behaviour was discovered in Cephalotes atratus in the Peruvian rainforest. Leaving a branch need not mean continuing all the way to the forest floor.

A fall can still have a destination.
