English shiritori needs a choice about silent endings

Shiritori also has an English-word version. For a word such as life with a silent final vowel letter, optional rules can use either that vowel or the preceding consonant for the next word. Moving a word game between languages introduces new decisions about what counts as its end.

A familiar chain acquires a different joining rule.
