A phone from the deepSourced
Underwater observations travelled up a telephone line
In the 1930s, William Beebe and Otis Barton descended in a steel Bathysphere off Bermuda. A cable lowered the sphere, while another carried telephone and lighting wires. Beebe described the animals he saw by phone, and Gloria Hollister recorded his observations at the surface.
Deep-sea field notes were made at the other end of a telephone.
