A whaling celebration includes a blanket toss
Nalukataq is an Iñupiat spring-whaling celebration in northern Alaska. Alongside sharing food, participants hold the edges of a large skin blanket or cloth and toss a person standing at its centre into the air. A person being tossed may scatter sweets for children.
One person rises through the coordinated effort of many others.
